@lnxw48a1 Commissioner Koskinen literally told an oversight committee that if he could cut the hiring timeline down from taking 6-12 months to something closer to private sector norms we wouldn’t have so much trouble hiring. The extremely foolish people on the oversight panel denied his request in a bipartisan fashion then told him to Work Smarter & Try Harder instead. Even when presented with simple answers the folks on Capitol Hill are blind.

@lnxw48a1 My union is making bad noises again. The critters on Capitol Hill are accelerating towards the Bad Place again. We’ve been told by the union to get our personal finances squared away as the last EFT pay deposit within the fiscal year is September 23rd and FY2020 begins on the Tuesday of Week 1 of a pay period. We’re not likely to have many deemed “excepted-essential” at the bureau if we hit the wall again so soon.

@dbs Back when I worked in an academic library I had a dean do that. Nowadays as a tax collector (*cough* high-stakes specialist telephone reference with limited legal aid) we’re in such a constrained operating environment that my first through third line managers don’t have time to do stuff like that. My 11th line manager (POTUS) doesn’t do all-hands e-mails thankfully. Everybody above 3rd line has communications staff they *must* utilize for wide mails.
