At the behest of our IT department, my work computer is installing something called “Visual Fortran” 🤨

@clacke Most courses fall into one of two categories.

The first is about learning or improving your technique. This can be basic beginner stuff, or more advanced things (e.g. freestyle tricks).

The second is about discovering a specific region. Here you’re running rivers with a guide. It’s a safe way to explore something new. This is what I did in #Greece this past week.

The remainder are things like „learn to roll“ and other specific skills.

The inevitable has happened: every time I take a #kayaking course, I learn that I need a new boat.

Lest you think this is just blind consumerism: This is a boat designed to provide stability when you’re riding through big waves.

The boats I currently have are optimized for having fun in easier conditions. They would be too unstable for the kind of rivers we ran last week, and I want more of those 😁

The extra stability also comes in handy when I’m guiding groups.

You see, I’m really good at rationalizing this.
