I'm building a computer around a microcontroller (ESP32 or something similar) with a keyboard and e-Ink display. Haven't worked out the details yet, but it will be Open Source
This thread is a little long, but it gives some background into it https://mastodon.social/@cypnk/5144296
It started with keyboard layouts and wound up going more into shortcuts
A bit more about the UI I'm thinking of and updated shortcuts:

It came with an Intel 80286 12 MHz CPU or 80386 at 20 MHz and up to 8192 kB RAM (depending on how much you wanted to splurge). At release, it cost $4,999

It's hard to grasp the full context of his words because this is only an excerpt, but I think his vision is for the world for people to empower themselves. We're seeing something a bit similar in China with the awakening of young people to what's outside their world. They're slowly trickling in ideas from the outside after getting their minds blown

Yes, it's the one Matthew Broderick used in WarGames (H/T to @anton for reminding me of it)
This one is at the Computer History Museum and I just want to run up to it and flip those switches!

I think it has all the keys you need to run DOS most programs without too much trouble if Fn was added and the number row can serve as F keys. If this can be added to a folding case with an e-ink display, I think that would be the ideal low-power system to carry around https://mastodon.social/media/NJr2uPuP6H_2btyZTIQ

Of course, I can't justify spending that much money on a glorified typewriter. I could build something similar with an e-ink display and maybe an ESP 32
