@clacke misskey.io has always supported nodeinfo accounting even if it doesn't report active users that way.

@clacke I think that the jump in "others" size is largely caused by community.nodebb.org. The big question is whether the 25,364 users is claiming is in anyway accurate or is it just counting remote users

At least 117,321 registered accounts and 36,635,201 posts were created during this period.

This project started because I was irritated that when I changed instances that my post character limited decreased and that info wasn't obvious from an instance's "About" page so I went trawling for info in the API. A number of web pages resulted from that exercise.
After discovering user counts the question turned to what's the growth like and that meant creating a DB to store stuff I collected above and the graph it. What to do with the graphs? Post them of course, hence this bot.
