@maiyannah I'm actually irritated with NDT too, his Twitter is a travesty for someone trying to popularize science, and like Nye he has a proud disdain for philosophy. But for his faults I came away from watching panel discussions with him, with more respect for him than going in.
@maiyannah Sagan fell for this too sometimes, but every human does and I believe he had that introspective, self-correcting mental process. Also yeah he seemed much more in tune with the fact that the practice of science is a human endeavor and all the problems that brings with it.
@mikael I prefer to keep my email inside my domicile, but I'm gonna switch to you for my GNUsocial server I think, I'm out of space on this digitalocean server.
@berry @archaeme That seems to be what many people do. I'm running two gnu social servers, Shitposter Club is running GNU Social 1.2beta (currently on beta4) and Qvitter main branch. I periodically pull Qvitter as there's always little enhancements and fixes, and if there's a regression, @hannes2peer tends to fix it very quickly (even faster when you report it.)
I am also running a testing server running GNU Social main branch and Qvitter main branch that I pull all the time. It seems very stable but I'm hesitant to totally recommend doing this. ALWAYS do a FULL backup before upgrading.
@vi I think the burst of new users during #RIPTwitter dropped off and traffic has slowed way back down. The majority of unsatisfied people seem to have largely settled on freezepeach and sealion instances and a handful of others.
@taknamay @c All it took for bots to pass the Turing test was to introduce more people to computers than in the 1970's.

Christmas Personified as a CatgirlI don't run Windows 10 though, I only run authentic GNU/Linux or as I have recently taken to calling it, GNU PLUS Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the contex
@discussthang @verius @verius @maiyannah I promised my users I am going to try. That's the best anybody can hope for. Anyway the costs are low because the safety valve for every user is "go find another server", which is infinitely better than getting booted from Twitter and having no options. Get booted from a server here and be back on the network for your followers in minutes.
