@maiyannah Feynman was famous for being a jerk.
- Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this.

@moonman Well he's been basically caught making up what I would call "feel-good" stuff, so I don't feel it's an unfair claim, but at the same time, I agree with your point too - we must always consider the humanity of the opposing sides in a debate. To bring the conversation a bit full-circle, this was the chief criticism Carl Sagan made of the Skeptic movement.
-
@moonman At the same time, however, he would be doing a much better job of educating if he is not turning people off to what he is saying, would he not? My knowledge of psychology seems to suggest so anyways; if you make people defensive, they are less likely to consider your own opinion. This is the problem the Socratic Method sought to overcome.

@moonman @maiyannah I heard you can't have sex in space though
:(
-
@rohan @maiyannah Not with that attitude, you can't.

@maiyannah Sagan fell for this too sometimes, but every human does and I believe he had that introspective, self-correcting mental process. Also yeah he seemed much more in tune with the fact that the practice of science is a human endeavor and all the problems that brings with it.

@maiyannah I'm actually irritated with NDT too, his Twitter is a travesty for someone trying to popularize science, and like Nye he has a proud disdain for philosophy. But for his faults I came away from watching panel discussions with him, with more respect for him than going in.

@moonman @maiyannah I think you mean: "... kind of a Dick". :-D
