Christopher M. Hobbs (cmhobbs@loadaverage.org)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Jan-2016 04:46:02 UTC Christopher M. Hobbs Email encryption needs to be much much easier, and if possible, enabled by default. I just received this from someone I was emailing back and forth with via a separate channel: " I find your e-mails impossible to read - they are full of long random strings of characters for some reason and your message is mixed into the middle somewhere."
This is a common response to my signed emails. -

Christopher M. Hobbs (cmhobbs@loadaverage.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Jan-2016 17:55:20 UTC Christopher M. Hobbs Excellent observation. The article I got internet-mad at even highlighted the "tragedy of the commons". Reading The Wealth of the Commons is a refreshing new light on that issue. -
Christopher M. Hobbs (cmhobbs@loadaverage.org)'s status on Saturday, 23-Jan-2016 16:52:50 UTC Christopher M. Hobbs Well I got mad on the internet and left nasty comments on a post on freepo.st. The combination of this article and the one about the Linux Foundation removing member voting privileges just turned me into a grump today. Capitalism is infuriating, it's even more infuriating that capitalism is not seen as the root of these problems.

Christopher M. Hobbs (cmhobbs@loadaverage.org)'s status on Thursday, 14-Jan-2016 19:24:34 UTC Christopher M. Hobbs @benediktg I doubt I could hold a conversation but I've kind of accidentally learned enough German to be able to read it loosely thanks to GNU Social. I may try to pick up the language at some point because I follow so many German speakers. The same thing has happened with Spanish but that's cheating because I already speak Portuguese. -
Christopher M. Hobbs (cmhobbs@loadaverage.org)'s status on Thursday, 14-Jan-2016 18:49:21 UTC Christopher M. Hobbs I've got some crazy cognitive dissonance sitting in the keynote to the summit for the company that employs me. This is my first gig working for folks who produce end user (non web or infrastructure stuff) desktop software. It's so strange hearing them talk about other companies reverse engineering our code and producing their own versions. It's also uncomfortable hearing about people "pirating" our products. Free Software makes a hell of a lot more sense than this. All this cloak and dagger nonsense is unnecessary. We should be sharing. If money is your end goal, find a better way. Capitalism and proprietary software really bother me and I often feel helpless to do anything about either one. -
