@mcnees Yep, the biggest threat from a Carrington-type event down on the ground would be destruction of the huge industrial-scale transformers on which our power grid relies, owing to geomagnetically induced ground currents. Those transformers are in short supply, and have production times on the order of a year, IIRC. Take enough of them out, and the lights won’t be coming back on in some places for a looooong time. It won’t matter whether your home electronics and appliances are damaged.

Got out for another walk along the river with @albireo today, this time heading upstream. We collected a few leftover milkweed seeds and will attempt to grow them in the yard at home this coming year. The skies were clear and beautiful today, with a few familiar celestial visitors – the waxing Moon hung out next to Jupiter, and Mars glowered off to the east.
