📚🔭 I'm about to be on Science Friday talking about the end of the Universe! The interview (which was recorded in 2020) airs in about 10 minutes, around 3:40pm Eastern. And my book is the SciFri Book Club pick for April! More info / listen here: https://www.sciencefriday.com/sf-books/the-end-of-everything/
You can read more about the image above here https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2023/cena/ and browse the Chandra photo gallery to see some of the other incredible images and science the Chandra Observatory has brought us. #SaveChandra
Chandra, the space-based observatory that brings us incredible x-ray images of the most extreme environments in the cosmos, is at risk of cancellation. It’ll be a huge loss to astronomy if the mission ends prematurely for budget reasons. Go to https://www.savechandra.org/ to find out how to help #SaveChandra
@aeva Good question! Main way is to use patterns of known absorption or emission lines. They’ll get shifted to longer wavelengths but will appear at the same places relative to each other in the spectrum
Patients don’t need to ask doctors to wash their hands, or wear gloves, or sterilize their equipment. Why should patients need to demand their doctors take adequate precautions like wearing a mask against an widespread airborne virus that causes death and chronic illness?
@jliska@iain_bancarz There hasn’t been a conversation about that and typically I don’t want every talk I give posted on YouTube. (There are plenty of my talks on there already!)
@CStamp@iain_bancarz I would as well! (The last few events I’ve been to at U Toronto had none, except that in some rooms there were air purifiers mounted on the walls.)
@AstroKatie uhm... why does the signup page for your newsletter want my first name and birthdate? They weren't required fields but felt kind of unsafe to put that info out there in a pii sort of way.
@skryking First name is so the e-mail will arrive with “Hi FirstName,” and birthday is there so I can send a special birthday note. Both are of course optional!
