@lightweight In the case of my employer, teams is integrated with other Office software already in use and, more importantly, employs the same authentication and access management. So they can secure Teams in a way they can't secure the other platforms.

I find it really enhances my understanding of economics generally to simply think of it as being based in legalized gambling. No more, no less. Sure, people will always come up with justifications for betting on this or that, or will have a 'system', but it is essentially a game of chance.

A lot follows from that. One is that it's better to be the house than to be a gambler - ie., to sell platforms, services, or pickaxes - and collect the vig. Another is that the only way to keep winning is to entice other people to start gambling (hence the whole mythology of 'growth') creating, in effect, a ponzi scheme.

The ethics of all that are, of course, very questionable, since we're literally gambling with people's lives and livelihoods.

@mackiwg @dajbelshaw Web3 will be just fine. Cryptocurrency is just gambling with web3 technology, which means you win some, you lose some. But what matters for web3 isn't the wins or losses, it's the vig.

@pfefferle @chrisaldrich @ton OK, I got pretty_links redirect working (have to change your permalink Common Settings in Settings -> Permalinks away from “Default”) and I *can* follow @Downes@leftish.media in Mastodon (still doesn't work for 'stephen@downes.ca' ceause of the extra '@' -- I'll still post an issue on that because it's a common username format, & the code should be parsing for site name differently (I've encountered this in my own code).

@pfefferle @chrisaldrich @ton The .well-known directory is findable, otherwise LetsEncrypt would not work.

I assume requests to https://downes.ca%40leftish.media/.well-known/webfinger are redirected..?

I just used an out-of-the-box installation of WordPress - I'll check for pretty permalinks but if mod_rewrite isn't enabled I'll probably just give up.
