N-5-O-body (n5admin@n5.federati.net)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2020 20:08:30 UTC N-5-O-body Personally, I never liked #IRC, so I quickly stopped using it back in the late #1990s. Sometime in the 2000s or 2010s, I started to use #SILC (through their CLI client based on the "irssi" IRC client), and only through SILC did I learn to tolerate IRC. Today, I almost always use IRC through bridges to #Matrix or #XMPP MUCs.
And even though I usually have multiple terminal windows open on my desktop, I only use GUI IRC clients. -

This happened a few months back, but I just saw it today. -

Some VPS hosters forbid it now. -

I will probably try it out soon. #Monal, my current client, appears to only operate when in the foreground. (Likewise for the #Mutter #IRC client, so that may be an #Apple restriction.) -

I did not like it either time. In the early #2010s, I encountered #SILC and learned to tolerate IRC through its descendant SILC. Like it? No, but now I can tolerate it (and that is my main use for #Matrix β a mostly always connected IRC client).
So @moonman is not alone there. -

Jules (jules@cybre.space)'s status on Wednesday, 27-Dec-2017 13:21:24 UTC Jules Any tips for a simple web-based #chat software?
I'm looking for something to host on my server and use for chat sessions with a small group of people (a team basically). No client software.
I'm NOT looking for a full blown collaboration thing, it needs to be simple and not overwhelming (because #accessibility). Just one (or more) chat rooms and maybe private messages.
I'm thinking about #IRC but I don't know any good web-clients?
People should just go to the URL and be able to chat.
Boost please π

"apparently people are getting around Chrome and Firefox telling everyone that non-HTTPS password fields are 'not secure' by just using regular text fields. they change the font on the text field to 'text-security-disc', which is apparently a font that exists of all bullets and looks just like traditional password fields."
How about instead of investing time and effort into schemes like these, you just ROLL OUT #HTTPS FOR FSCK'S SAKE!
