I've been wanting to get a #BeagleBone AI for a while. I saw one for sale, so I ordered it. I can't find an MSRP, but I can guess that I paid more than that.

I just looked at Pi 0 prices. #Raspberry_Pi 0 W is $78-$99 if you can find it. Raspberry Pi 0 2 W was even more, again if you can find it. The original 0 listed at $5.

    I'm glad there's a 0W and a 0 2W waiting for me at home.

Hopefully, I still remember what I wanted them for when I get there.

This is interesting. I'd like to see a comparison between the 8GiB RAM versions of the #Odroid M1 and the !RasPi 4. I don't know what the #raspberry_pi 4 lists at, but when I bought a couple, they were around the same price.

After both Iceloops and myself found our Odroid XU4 #SBCs overheating, despite coming with a fan already, I've started to wonder whether Hardkernel designs its boards too close to the limitations of the chips.

This looks like a nice little project for Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. It is a two-drive #NAS that runs on standard !RasPi operating systems instead of some storage vendor's proprietary OS.

It is still in development, not a finished product, and is targeted at tinkerers.

I've been talking with @1iceloops123@shitposter.club about Raspberry Pi 4, Quartz64, Rock Pi 4, and similar devices. Frankly, for a low-income person, he's getting too excited, as it will take him some time to purchase whatever devices he finally chooses.

I offered to send a !RasPi Zero that I have lying around, but he said no. Now I'm going to put it to use myself. I just have to decide what to do with it.

(I generally try to keep one unused around, because historically, I get an idea, then I order stuff, and when everything has arrived weeks later, the project is no longer at the front of my mind.)

The Raspberry Pi is one of the smallest and cheapest mini computers you can buy. It has an HDMI port, USB ports, and runs Ubuntu or other open-source operating systems like a champ. The new Raspberry Pi Pico, on the other hand, is like the CPU of a more complex machine. By itself, it can’t do much, but with a few add-ons, you can control robots, lights, and other DIY hacks.

I think there are still a couple of projects around making a !RasPi, #BeagleBone, or similar SBC the host of one's primary online presence. I just don't think that--given asymmetrical connection speeds and ISP interference--it is a workable solution, even in most Western countries. When you consider the poor countries where the only Internet service is mobile devices, there's no way it can put "most" people in control of their data.

We probably need to combine multiple approaches, where most approaches are hosted outside one's home or physical control.
