there are programs out there who can, even if one uses software that hides your IP, ..., will recognize you by doing sophisticated #text-analysis. e.g. they could #match your new account (under new name) to a past account on another system.

yes, but then you should be consequent and use those, and also !not use !gs but other software systems (1) that protect you better. And also, run the systems #yourself and do NOT be a sheep like the most around here... Logging or not logging on a !gs server wouldn't help much to protect you, it can make it a little harder for agencies, states, ... yes; but it will always lead back to you. @imn00b However, the #GNUsocial network isn't really designed to be secret and hidden. It's mainly meant to be a broad, distributed means of communications where noone can take your data away.
But of course I hope administrators of #GNUsocial nodes are open and welcoming to users from #TOR IP spaces etc.

@pskosinski one possible reason for missing posts in conversations is: no-one on your instance is following that specific remote user yet

cc !gs !gnusocial RT @pskosinski Whatever the reason is that #fragmentation should be unacceptable, everyone should see the #same conversation.
