Yβall, thatβs nothing. Have you been to Seattle? They make poles out of a composite of flyer and staple there.

It's the pole of Theseus, There's no original pole under the staples. It's all metal and rust now.

paramnesiac (paramnesiac@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 05-Jan-2024 03:37:49 UTC paramnesiac @SidFudd @tdriley @pluralistic Careful! On some of those poles, they're now load-bearing staples.

Taylor Jessen (sidfudd@4bear.com)'s status on Friday, 05-Jan-2024 03:37:50 UTC Taylor Jessen @tdriley @pluralistic Someday the timing will be exactly right for me to stand at the corner of some urban intersection with a pair of pliers and very carefully remove EVERY STAPLE from a telephone pole. It won't just be OCD. It'll be useful work! π

tltroup (tltroup@digipres.club)'s status on Friday, 05-Jan-2024 03:38:31 UTC tltroup @pluralistic @indianaj989 I remember reading a book about Industrial History written ca. 1890. The writer opined about the difficulty of getting workers to the factory on time βfor those were the days of the spontaneous street danceβ.
My life hasnβt been the same since I read that.

This is exactly why I have been saying for years that as soon as my son graduates HS, I will be going to a solar day. Getting up by the sun, no work after dark.
Only one more school year to go after this!Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -

And in colonized territories, it started with the missionary's bell.Clocks and bells were a critical part of bending people's lives to clock time (as opposed to natural time)

It all starts with what I call "the tyranny of the school bell" - and then it never lets up till you retire or die (whichever comes first). -
