   The very first photograph of the sun was taken #OTD in 1845. It was a daguerreotype made with a 1/60 second exposure by the physicists Louis Fizeau and Léon Foucault.

     Compare that daguerreotype with this recent movie, from the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, showing the highest-resolution images of our Sun ever produced. Some of the details are only about 20 miles across.

     @mcnees fantastic result using the best technology available to them, here’s an image that I took of the sun recently using my iPhone to take a picture of the image I’d projected onto a piece of cardboard our star is fascinating.
