Upgrading my file server's RAM. What an absolute nightmare. It's what happens when you built an ITX PC... Locking its memory bandwidth to single-channel DDR4 just to save a few bucks before realizing it's slower than dual-channel DDR3 and buying another DIMM years later and rebuilding the entire server was definitely a bad idea... :woozy_baa: #libreops

I find 2U is about the sweet spot for home/small scale business on prem servers. You can use standard desktop components for the most part and go with low noise 80mm fans instead of 40mm screamers, but they still stack reasonably well.

Linux has a AMD EDAC driver to read a register inside its memory controller, it's literally the only reliable method to check ECC on AMD's customer desktop systems. But it's running FreeBSD with no video and I can't boot Linux. I guess I'll just hope for the best and perhaps port the Linux EDAC driver to FreeBSD userspace. :woozy_baa: #libreops

Oh right, first to remove the SATA controller to install a video card, boot into Linux, then remove video card and reinstall the SATA controller... :woozy_baa: #libreops
