@AbbieNormal Etoilé was actually based on GNUStep - an attempt to create an improved desktop experience on top of it. ObjC, indeed, and nowhere near #smalltalk territory. But at least they try.

Abbie Normal (abbienormal@social.device5.co.uk)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jun-2022 08:46:44 UTC Abbie Normal NeXT is an extremely interesting oroject but I'm not sure I understand what it's all about
Is it a library ?
How is it distinct from Etoile ?
And then there's the ObjC mess
I don't know, I don't get it
Also: is their class browser still based on the Miller Columns ?

Abbie Normal (abbienormal@social.device5.co.uk)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jun-2022 08:46:45 UTC Abbie Normal I drream a native #gnome framework made with a browser copied form the #smalltalk browser
For browsing files hierarches
But also email folders
toots (the articulation of categories in ths case could be invented)
forums
trees of todo tasks
git trees
databases
whatever
things could be represented logically with vocabularies and triples and managed by a system wide service
And then the same browser could allow you to browse anything
