zatty (zatnosk@manowar.social)'s status on Sunday, 24-Apr-2022 17:23:18 UTC zatty @zkat because the carbon dioxide and water combines to carbonic acid which takes a little while to break down, so the liquid is slightly acidic compared to regular water.

Tobey (tobeyfox@tech.lgbt)'s status on Sunday, 24-Apr-2022 17:23:37 UTC Tobey @zkat this might be wrong, and someone who knows more about chemistry and biology stuff would probably be more helpful but my guess is this... Carbon dioxide at high enough concentration in water forms carbonic acid and as such carbonated beverages tend to be fairly acidic. I would guess that this acidity is what causes the discomfort.
