   Dear #France peeps: please vote against the fascist today. And then, get out on the streets tomorrow and make it clear that Macron has no mandate for further racist, right-wing policy.

   Abstaining right now is not a useful protest against Macron and his bullshit. It is pro-fascism. Voting is the easiest, most risk-free antifascist action you can take today.

     @tfb The fact that so many "far left" voters are swinging to "far right" makes me think that a lot of them believe, against all evidence, in accelerationism. Or just that it's regular horseshoe-theory carryon of course.

     But this is not going to get better. Fossil decline, nitrogen decline, accelerating inequality, peak phosphate around the corner.. we're not gonna win just by voting but if we cede any battlegrounds we'll lose for sure.

     @clacke What would that mean? How are discarded slips used as a proxy? I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with the idea, it doesn't come up over here in reportage.

     When you vote you bring both slips into the booth to preserve vote secrecy. You put one in your vote envelope and chuck the other one in the bin.
     
     It would seem that most French citizens in HK voted for Macron.

     You take one paper that says Emmanuel Macron and one paper that says Marine Le Pen. You put one paper in your vote envelope and the other paper in the trash.
     
     If most of the papers in the trash say Marine Le Pen that suggests that most of the papers in voting envelopes in the ballot box say Emmanuel Macron.

     @seachaint @tfb The lack of a coherent, positively stated vision for the future from the left that isn’t itself either predicated on accelerating collapse, or exterminating the perceived enemies, or individualized escapisms, is going to end us up with a whole lot of people killed and we need to do something about this asap.

     @seachaint @tfb Yeah… we’ve observed that the new far right has shifted from being blindly pro-business, etc, to correctly identifying flaws of capitalism (that are still being soundly ignored by mainstream liberalism), and then articulating a future-oriented vision for solving them (unlike the left) — which is attractive to many people who are dispossessed by the lack of a vision for the future. However that vision is also violently against some peoples existence…
