   Who are these "liberals" that I'm seeing conservatives claim to be defending Disney's privilege to have their own feudal fiefdom?
   
   I have no context for this. I don't know which park it is about and I don't know exactly what's changing, but I don't know why anyone even slightly left of center wouldn't applaud a corporation losing some privilege, especially one like Disney.
   
   Do conservatives think Disney is left-wing because they put some token effort into including a whiff of diversity in their promotion of American conservative family values?

     @cstanhope Thanks! So he's doing the right thing for the wrong reason, punishing Disney for doing the right thing, and it's the enemy of my enemy thing. And Disney did act moderately left-wing in this matter.

     @clacke Oh, and the park in question is Disney World over in Florida where DeSantis is governor and has been very active in attempting to keep his name in the news. Disney World has some sort of special district carved out of a piece of Florida.

     @clacke I could be wrong, but I think the political conservatives hitting the news don't believe anything like that. They're just finding Disney to be a useful target to help promote their "culture war" to their base (and perhaps keep the corps in line). There is so much heat, noise, and harm coming from US conservatives leading up to our midterms. :(

     It's sort of an "enemy of my enemy" thing.

     DeSantis is enacting severe homophobic legislation in Florida. Disney opposed it. DeSantis threatened to revoke their cushy special tax status in FL.

     So, yeah, liberals would normally like to see Disney pay more taxes, but (many) are more interested in defending Disney's resistance to DeSantis.

     This, despite the fact that Disney has not historically been a terribly progressive company and generally has backed conservative politics.

     as for liberal applauding it, they also applauded adding the jan 6 rioters to the no-fly list, which they used to oppose until it was on americans they dislike. many have no real principles

     @clacke Disney's not left-wing, but about as moderate these days as you can get; which does mean some support for gay rights. I loathe Disney's media, but the company's meh.

     And this isn't so much about the park (Disney World = Florida, Disney Land = California, not relevant here), but the towns for the workers. Disney is a huge part of Florida's economy.

     So DeSantis is trying to sabotage this giant money engine and half the country's vacation destination over his homophobia.
