It seems like Taiwan and Ukraine are countries that show how China and Russia could be if they just weren't fucked over by dipshit "leaders"

China and Russia had/have bad leaders, but they were mainly fucked by extern aggression... -

Taiwan recovered in the 80s when their tyrant died. China was on their long way to recovery for over 30 years after their tyrant died, but reversed course and got a new one. -

Ukraine does a much better job at democratic elections than we do here in Russia. Essentially there's United Russia and a few other candidates (sometimes sponsored by them), but the former always gets a majority.

China would have been a peaceful social democracy before Europe was even halfway there.
To be fair to Lenin, the Japanese certainly did their bit to screw up the power balance, but the Soviet Union was there first.
I'm not saying the British and the French did anything right or morally defensible in 19th century China, far from it, but they didn't cause Mao; If anything by weakening the Qing dynasty they inadvertently caused Dr. Sun. -

But the Communists gave Chiang the excuse to extend it. And maybe you have forgotten that the KMT was *also* originally supported by the Soviets. -
Lien Rag (lienrag@mastodon.tedomum.net)'s status on Saturday, 09-Apr-2022 09:46:13 UTC Lien Rag You're aware of what China was under KMT rule ?
Because it's certainly nothing like "a peaceful democracy"...
