chjara (chjara@disqordia.space)'s status on Friday, 01-Apr-2022 05:14:02 UTC chjara also i hate how "natural gas" is called "natural". it's clearly greenwashing, it's methane lol
it is true that methane burns significantly cleaner and more efficiently than coal or petrol, but like, that's not a high bar lmao-
chjara (chjara@disqordia.space)'s status on Friday, 01-Apr-2022 05:14:01 UTC chjara @Amber re greenhouse it's funny but burning methane is actually cleaner than venting it in the atmosphere Santa Claes πΈπͺππ°π likes this. -
Amber (amber@toot.site)'s status on Friday, 01-Apr-2022 05:14:02 UTC Amber @chjara don't forget that methane itself is incredibly dangerous, is an incredible potent greenhouse gas, and leaks!

Natural gas is natural because it's naturally occuring in the ground rather than synthesized. It's not accurate to call it methane, as even though most of it is methane it's not pure. It's a useful term, just as "air" is useful for something that is mostly nitrogen.
The Swedish academy records the first occurrence of "naturgas" in 1903. The term is almost a century older than the term "greenwashing" and anyone even talking about doing anything about climate change. -

We also call strawberries "jordgubbar", "[old earth men]". π

pretty sure gas is under quite a bit of pressure
