Nothing βjust happensβ, itβ all driven by evolutionary selection.
psilocybin and ergotamine are not antifungals, they are the products of fungi. I think they discourage predators in general, particularly mammals.

Yeah, with "just happens" I meant "toxicity as such isn't essential to their contribution to the plant's fitness".
