Well, I've at least hit the point of being able to speak random German phrases to my wife and she understands what I'm saying and doesn't correct me. It only took me 11 years to get this far. #slowandsteadywinstherace

I've been trying to learn it for years and am finally taking it relatively seriously. I use both Busuu and Rosetta Stone. Rosetta does the immersion technique where they don't explain anything to you they just slowly introduce you to the language through word/picture association and Busuu breaks things down and gives the why behind everything. I find them somewhat complimentary, even though I started with Busuu before Rosetta.

I'm currently learning Spanish as I live in the American South West, and Spanish is spoken all over the place here. Seems like it would be handy to know some. My great grandmother on my dad's side came to the United States from Germany, and never learned English. Even her daughter (my grandmother) always spoke English with a German accent. I'd like to become at least somewhat capable in Spanish before jumping to something new though.

My wife and I have been married now for 15 years, and she corrects me almost every time I say something to her. No, it doesn't matter what language I use.

But if I ask her a question in German she responds in English, but with the actual response. So I'll take the progress.
