#introduction
I've been working with user support, user education, system administration, LotusScript, document database development, Java, relational database development, web development, git, Ruby, Python, IPTV systems, Continuous Integration, build automation, for the last 20 years, in roughly that order.
I really like free software, parentheses, and impossible dreams of horribly complex systems that somehow Just Work and help humanity.

I've been on this platform since 2008-10-14* and this is the first time I introduce myself. :-D

That's around the Java/RDBMS mark in my timeline.

@shpuld I do like parenting. Love it, in fact.
It's a lot like software development, partly because it is! Just that the legacy code is 4 billion years old and *literally* nobody knows exactly how it works, not even the guy who left the office last year. Or the two people who sort of literally put their souls into the product. And the only way to program it is through this clunky UI that is constantly under development and buggy as hell.
Where proper software development is mostly about people, parenting is *all* about people. And nobody knows what we're doing, and your only comfort is you're pretty sure there are a lot of people out there who are even less clueless than you, because you are confronted with the results every day.
So it's thankless, hard work that eats your brain and never leaves you alone ... and I don't want it to.
I'm so happy every time I can see something finally working, and I can project that this version is going to surpass the previous generation in several ways. He's funny, clever, caring, fiercely self-reliant and doesn't take shit from anyone.
Of course, fixing the old bugs almost certainly leads to creating new ones.

@shpuld @clacke in my view "having" kids is a terrible idea. Raising kids, on the other hand, is a great idea.

@slrock @hector @shpuld Or maybe it would be helpful to instead think of it as raising software?
-
@ckeen I had a nice fight with #fabsh about #fukushima. I have to admit he was more right than I was.
-
@ghostwoods Haha, thank you! :-D
Mastodon, welcome to me.

@shpuld A few hours later it turned out I need that CV by February.

@shpuld Two months is not a lot of time. But I'm sure glad it's not one month.

There. Basically superhuman developer already. And then federated social networking? God-like status.
