If #sandstorm solves a problem very few people had, that's because today the problem is so intractable that very few people are even aware that they would like to have that problem.
Projects like sandstorm are essential for finding the solution to #userops, and userops is essential for solving decentralization.
Decentralization is essential for saving the internet.

@gemlog @cwebber @maiki Yeah, it is. And once MG supports federation, any Sandstorm MG won't be able to support it because of how Sandstorm regulates network access (no ad-hoc contact with arbitrary external services).
-
@gemlog @maiki The heavy-handedness is not about the relations between developers and users or anything like that, it's about the deployment model for the software than runs on Sandstorm, like what I just said about federated software not being able to run on Sandstorm.

@gemlog @maiki Just how things worked out so far with collaboration within the problem description given.

@maiki I'm assuming it was a scope thing. We want to get this fundamental thing right, so let's focus on that and then put existing things on top.
Also because they always wanted the shop thing, and what better way to fill a shop than adapting existing things?
