@hannes2peer Awesome! Btw: it would great to have #FederatedUserSearch some time. So, when a #newuser1 has registered at #instance1 and #newuser2 has registered at #instance2, they can find each other via the Search box, even though they are both new and don't have any followers anywhere.
So the Search on #instance1 should query all remote instances (that are known to the local instance because of a remote following) via a protocol extension "hey #instance2, do you happen to have #someusername?" The search query could be sent out to the other instances in parallel.
I had that idea after having a short look on that very stupid Mashable article about Mastodon, where William Shatner seems to have tried Mastodon.social and immediately tried to find some other guy who had just registered on another Mastodon instance, and failed. I think this is one valid point of that otherwise really stupid article.
