@jim Hi, last year you said that it stopped working for you after a couple of days. How long did it work properly this time? Which version did you use?
You know, without your close involvement I cannot improve such things, because I personally never got in such situation for years. Device reboot was maximum that I had to do to fix some problem, years ago...
Most people, naturally, are lazy to take part in the long investigation: they usually reinstall AndStatus and this cures everything.

@jim Lately I tried AndStatus on my old Nexus One, which is still alive and is used mostly for such tests.
I found out that if in Settings -> Syncing I do the below, this old phone is quite responsive:
1. Turn off "Sync while using AndStatus"
2. Change "Default sync frequency" to several hours
and make sure automatic syncing is on, so all hard work will be done, when you don't use the device
