OK, I've heard from a few people in response to this post about why they don't use or don't like pump.io. I would think it would be obvious, but I wrote this guide for people who are _interested_ in trying out pump.io or who tried it out very early on and never gave it a second look but might want to now. If you don't like pump.io, that is fine; but there is no need to broadcast it here in response to a helpful guide. I'm just trying to do some positive good here. You don't have to read the guide and you don't have to use pump.io.
I happen to like pump.io, diaspora, and gnu social all for different reasons. I use them all. And I bridge between them. That's my choice. Not using one other the other is a fine choice, but it's unnecessary to broadcast it in response to my original post.
If you have a specific thing you'd like in pump.io, I am sure that an email to evan@e14n.com would be appreciated; certainly, check out the current list of bugs and features and see if others have already made the request. If you can program or translate and want to make pump.io better, your contributions will certainly be welcomed.
