A color animation showing the 1,000 stars nearest to our Sun. The Sun is show at the center, with the stars plotted according to their relative position, size, and temperature (color). Cooler stars are redder, hotter stars are blue and white. The camera circles around an axis that passes through the Sun and is parallel to the galactic plane, and remains pointed at the Sun as it moves from below to above the Galactic plane.

The 1,000 stars nearest to our Sun.
The camera circles an axis through our Sun (the yellow dot at the center) and perpendicular to the galactic plane. The whole thing is about 100 light years across.
