@teleclimber @aral @cjd I guess the other thing I would say is "everyone has to start somewhere." Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Keep in mind this gives every participant a reachable IP on the network, so there's no ISP filter preventing that sort of thing like residential Internet often has.

Moving up a layer, TLS can be used without public CA infrastucture (eg, #Syncthing) by exchanging key validation information in other means. Also, the #Noise protocol is a viable TLS alternative in many cases.

I don't think I realized until just now how close to the beginning of Linux that was. That was an incredible amount of progress in just 3-5 years.

It is amazing to look at how stagnant the former dominant players have become. Only Solaris has had any real innovation, and even there #OpenZFS and #BPF seem to be pushing forward more than #ZFS and #dtrace. AIX, Tru64, SCO, HP-UX, etc. have all either withered or died, and even Solaris seems to be heading that way under Oracle.

Captures my dislike of both proof-of-work and proof-of-stake. In fact, that's the first #cryptocurrency I'd consider getting involved with in any kind of serious way, as the others have serious environmental or social problems.
