And this is where ActivityPub is worse than email: With email, if you own a domain, you own your identity. Can't do that with Mastodon, as far as I understand. -
Noch Nicht Hier (nnh@libranet.de)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Apr-2022 09:09:24 UTC Noch Nicht Hier @clacke OT: I was at a Wintergatan concert, hoping to see/hear the Marble Machine. Turned out it was in fact too wide for the doorway, so it would not easily get out of the room where it was built. (It was later disassembled to get to a Dutch(?) museum.)
Martin (band leader and machine builder) told us it was also unreliable. The video took several days to record, if I remember correctly, because the machine could only play parts of the song before failing, one way or other.
The Marble Machine is brilliant work, anyway π and the video may be the best way to enjoy it! -

At least one European country has moved from dictatorship to democracy through a revolution, and has since stayed a functioning democracy for more than 40 years: Portugal.
I will not pretend I know how that came to be, but my impression is there was a deliberate, honest direction towards a country for every citizen. If so, maybe that left fewer inhibiting scars and tensions, and kept the country from falling straight into chaos. (I'm sure there was enough hardship along the road.)
