When it came into Arch I thought what a pain, and I don’t really care how fast it boots because I mainly use a server and a desktop, neither of which are shutdown except when necessary. But as you noted the boot time is now very slow, it interferes with other processes, logging is a pain… Also my preferred distro has gone on an insane package renaming scheme which moves away from KISS, so I’m ready to try BSD.

Actually, I found the set-up process for GS MUCH easier than the old SN. It took me about 15 minutes and was similar to the WP experience. I think the main thing needed are good docs around SSL and the need to set up a working instance first, then add your plugins one by one.

Well. There’s some hyperbole here, but not much. Seduced by that 1978 article, I’ve been cooking Thompson’s turkey ever since, except for one Thanksgiving when I was covering the Czechoslovak revolution, which was exciting but not a patch on the first bite of Thompson’s stuffing (of which more, much more, later).

A recipe for the ages

The original clipping is brittle with age and rigid with two decades of turkey grease and gravy stains. Elder members of the clan have passed on and new diners have been born. But whatever their differences on politics or music, the generations seem united in the belief that there is no turkey but Thompson’s turkey.
