Getting older is complicated.

Here's a project that makes me happily chuckle: a BBS originally written in Microsoft BASIC for the TRS-80 CoCo to run entirely in RAM translated into Arduino C for torturing your friends with a "realistic Realistic" retro telecommunications experience.

It's been a amazing year for experiencing the growth of these intertwined communities of the fediverse, and the toot-lab has given me a comfortable vantage point from which to listen and speak.

But change is inevitable.

I start a lot of projects. Some never see the light of day. Some never live long enough to see a second day.

This one brewed for a while, wavering out of existence and back in, and it's now solid enough to acknowledge.

@thegibson at scale, I can't see the fediverse being less than an amalgam of multiple fediversal branches with n common nodes between any two branches - humanity's shared beliefspace is too big and has too many non-overlapping parts for anything else to happen.

just sat on the floor, stood smoothly up onto two feet, looked around for a few seconds, and then sat firmly on the butt.

just that little bit of progress is world changing and takes thousands of unsuccessful attempts without even really understanding the goal or how to get there.
