The hardest part of using PGP, key management, doesn't scale well in large organizations. We solved this problem at First Look Media (where there are over 200 PGP users) with GPG Sync. We maintain a keylist, and everyone subscribes to it, so everyone has the latest public key for everyone else.

For the last two years I've carried a honeypot laptop with me every time I traveled. I checked it in my luggage, left it unattended in my hotel rooms. After each trip, I did forensic analysis on the laptop to detect if it had been tampered with.

He ran a Tor exit from home. “Surveillance footage shows Bogatov and his wife leaving a supermarket four minutes before one of the posts was made on March 29. Given that the supermarket is half a kilometer from their home, it is unlikely that Bogatov could have made it home and posted online within four minutes.”

Well, on twitter I have 23k followers, but here I have 78. I'm a journalist, and it's nice to be able to reach a large and diverse audience. Will mastodon only be populated by nerds?

And while I hope it will, I have no idea if mastodon will end up being successful, or if it will end up in a pile of forgotten technology next to diaspora. It's too early to tell.

@quincy I'm not actually planning on abandoning twitter any time soon -- it would just be awesome if mastodon could become as popular and twitter could become phased out.

The internet is better when it's decentralized. Twitter is a large, centralized company based in the United States that meticulously tracks everything that happens on its platform, is full of ads, does behavioral tracking for ads, is a central point of failure for censorship, and users have no control over its direction.
