    Does anyone else have this? There's an old guy who sits at one of the busiest corners in town with multiple Trump flags flying on his wheelchair. He's been there almost every weekend since 2019.

    It was my impression that Parrot was designed specifically for the needs and goals of the P6 project with other language support being secondary. As the project changed, I didn't think Parrot was able to support its direction.

    But these are all views from the outside, not even following closely. I could be very wrong.

    Isn't ParrotVM the project that originally hosted the "Perl6" implementation (now the Rakudo Star implementation of Raku) before they moved to MoarVM? If so, I haven't heard anything about it in years ... it may be dead.

    #faveNephew is working on getting a state license for the next phase of his career, which may mean switching to a different agency within the county government. In the current agency, he's not getting enough applicable hours ( he's working up to 60 hours per week, but most of those hours are doing tasks which don't count toward the license ).

    Meanwhile, his cousin ( formerly known as #lazyNephew ) was recently fired from his job. Also, his girlfriend broke up with him (but her mom and siblings like him, so he's still welcome to stay with them) and the apartment building has new management which is evicting everyone so they can renovate and raise the rates.

    I read in the news that someone was arrested for elder abuse. The victim is about my age (but apparently in a lot worse condition). What a way to find out that I'm old.

    I can't say for sure what the difference is, because in the US most four-year colleges tend to perform research as well as teach and most universities seem to focus more on research than teaching. I do remember when when the California State College system became the California State University, they had to do lots of work ... including having a certain number of PhD faculty.

    I do know that one company brought in interns from both my CSU campus and its nearby UC (University of California) campus. Originally, the UC student interns were placed in supervisory positions ... the thought being they knew more about business and marketing than the CSU students. After a semester, the roles were switched because the UC students were more focused on research than on practice.

    (It was a matter for bragging rights that the business school on our CSU campus was AACSB accredited before the business school on the nearby UC campus, back when it was capped at the top 15% of business schools in the country.)

    The thing about forking #nginx into #freenginx is that they're going to have to come up with a different name pretty quickly, so that F5 doesn't come after them with trademark infringement claims.

    Some time back, I told #faveNephew a story about something he did when he was 2-3 years old. He says he's been thinking about it ever since.

    It wasn't that important. He was a small child. But he says it tipped him to something he wants to have checked sometime.

    Now, when I tell the other nephew (ex #lazyNephew) about things he did at that age, he's immediately embarrassed. To which I say things like "Almost every child in the country was wearing Barney underpants at that time." and remind him that there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

    I didn't realize that Soufrière Hills volcano on Montserrat ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soufri%C3%A8re_Hills ) and La Soufrière volcano on St Vincent ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Soufri%C3%A8re_(Saint_Vincent) ) were two different volcanoes. There are also two other Caribbean volcanoes with Soufrière in their names. This makes sense, because it appears that soufrière is french for sulfur

      The Soufrière Hills are an active, complex stratovolcano with many lava domes forming its summit on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. After a long period of dormancy, the Soufrière Hills volcano became active in 1995 and has continued to erupt ever since.       La Soufrière or Soufrière Saint Vincent (French pronunciation: [sufʁjɛʁ sɛ̃ vɛ̃sɑ̃]) is an active volcano on the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It is the highest peak in Saint Vincent, and has had eight recorded eruptions since 1718.     I didn't even know that today was Ash Wednesday. I don't normally pass the big church that would be most likely to celebrate, so I don't know whether they have the kinds of crowds that the big church had in the city where I lived from ages ~8-15. I know that was a long time ago, but my impression at the time was that you couldn't miss the crowds for "holy days of obligation".
