@JetlagJen not that I know of, but I would both use and contribute to a wiki of "how to do this normal human thing that I've never had to do before", with sections of regionally appropriate advice.

Emily (emily@sparkly.uni.horse)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Jan-2024 14:41:26 UTC Emily It occurs to me that I can't ever write a sudoku solver.
Not because I don't know how to (I can both write code and solve sudoku, combining these skills seems obviously possible), but because it would actively make my life worse to have one: I've discovered that doing sudoku in bed is just the right level of mentally engaging to make me sleepy quickly (a few fixed algorithms that take low but nonzero effort, not exciting enough to stay awake for more), and I also know that I can't bear to do something manually when I spent time automating that specific thing.

I requested access to all the zone files from ICANN because I was mildly curious about something, and got approved within minutes.
And they're sending me an email to let me know.
For each TLD.
All 1150 of them.

It's probably fine. He's honest and has high integrity, so surely he wouldn't lie about such things.

Emily (emily@sparkly.uni.horse)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Jan-2024 14:41:03 UTC Emily Experiment aborted, after I caught her dragging my PCB etching tank across the floor by the bubbler's power cord. Also wasn't that effective, sawdust seemed to have clogged the filter very quickly. Ah well.

Emily (emily@sparkly.uni.horse)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Jan-2024 14:41:01 UTC Emily I have a robot vacuum that I haven't used in several years (once I started living with another person and several cats, it became impractical to keep the floors clear enough for it to work well). So I took her down to the basement to see how she'd handle sawdust and metal chips.
Results so far are... not promising, because I *also* leave shit all over the floor down here :D
(also she found a dead spider and flung it at me)

Emily (emily@sparkly.uni.horse)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Jan-2024 11:42:49 UTC Emily Electronics people: recommend a desoldering thing.
I had one of those super cheap ones (https://a.co/d/diWI5L4) until today, when the threads holding the end piece on gave out and it launched the nozzle and a bunch of old solder dust at me. It was never very good at its job and I would like something nicer.

Emily (emily@sparkly.uni.horse)'s status on Saturday, 14-May-2022 05:09:09 UTC Emily @jens Thank you for writing this. This was a much better way of stating the similar unpopular opinion I'd been sitting on for a while - I'd been formulating it as "marginalized communities breed toxicity". Which, yeah, try expressing *that* one delicately to literally any marginalized person, even when you're part of the same group.
