@loke That was randomly happening. There would sometimes be a notification about failed updates. Closing #F-Droid and reopening it, redownloading the updates works. For some reason, trying to open updates from the notification was broken.
So I just met one of the 3 (!) maintainers of F-Droid. They are desperately looking for more volunteers as they are responsible for 1500 repositories between them. #fdroid#foss
Thanks to the #FDroid community, Fairphone is now the first phone manufacturer that offers a phone and an operating system that supports auto-updating of your open-source apps.
In appears that due to recent #F-Droid build server problems #AndStatus v.36.05 build was not prepared for F-Droid users. Now when v.36.06 has been released (and is available, as usual, here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456 ) I hope that this new version will be more lucky :-)
Turns out it's because it's old and signed with md5. All such apps have been moved to the F-Droid Archive. Luckily the Archive is trivial to find and activate, just go to Settings->Repositories and there's a convenient switch to flip.
Of course, in this case I don't believe it's a big problem, Liquid Wars doesn't have permissions for anything except network access, but for other apps you might want to think twice before you install something considered insecure.
@masoud There's no need to free one's entire device in order to install the flexible repository of !fs that is #F-Droid ;)
Most people I know have already installed F-Droid since it's simply much easier. No hassle with account registration etc. and they get all the software they need through there. (and if it's not there, they can easily receive it from a friend with the built-in app sharing functionality even if the original source is proprietary and closed!)
@nestort In short: As a developer I don't have any means to check this. #F-Droid has some automated procedure that monitors a source code repository (Github in this case) and figures out, when a new release should be built. Then it automatically builds the application from its source code and makes it available to F-Droid users. This process can fail at any step, and I don't have any "support person" to check and fix this. See our discussion of the similar case of broken process with F-droid team member: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/326
