Nonetheless, it is interesting that is allowed at all. I doubt this is unique. However, it's reminiscent of practices used in, for instance, witch trials . . . and that practice backfired with horrific consequences time after time after time. The law, in general, needs more reliance on evidence-based, scientific methodology ... not less reliance. This is an interesting example of supernaturality having equal weight, in principle, with an equivalent amount of physical evidence.
