I like that the plot of #MrRobot seems to suggest that "E-Corp" is trying to implement their own virtual currency, "eCoin", in the aftermath of a huge financial crisis due to debts being deleted.
The currency is mentioned by the Chinese minister of security when talking to EvilCorp's president as well as it's a payment option on the "Midland City" darkweb marketplace in #S02E05 (look at description for the "hitman for hire" ad). So in the Mr. Robot world it's apparently a recognized currency already.
It begs the question about what type of control virtual currencies have when controlled by a single, centralised company. Rather than being governed by nations or being beyond manipulative control such as with #Bitcoin etc.
Hopefully it makes people think twice about payment solutions such as MasterCard/Visa, Paypal, Swish (phonenumber based transactions owned by a couple of banks in Sweden) etc.

@imojito Yeah, but they're still only in control over actual, physical currency. Though that distinction is slipping with the overall digitalisation of money.
But all that is irrelevant since after the revolution, there will be no money.

@dtluna It'll happen when people realise that individualism is even worse.

@drymer It's not the most original name so I'm not surprised some random project has claimed it. But it's just of the zillion unused forks it seems on that site.
