Yuri Albuquerque (denommus@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 02:20:57 UTC Yuri Albuquerque It's been quite a long time. But I got interested in !nixos, does anyone else use it? Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -

@mcscx@quitter.se (mcscx@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 02:44:54 UTC @mcscx@quitter.se @denommus Never heard of #NixOS, sounds innovative, but also like "too good to be true". I wonder if they can live up to the expectations. -
Yuri Albuquerque (denommus@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 04:08:02 UTC Yuri Albuquerque @jookia @koz @mcscx how much do you use it to create self-contained development environments? Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -
Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) (clackemovedtoheldscalla@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 10:11:55 UTC Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) @denommus I've been running it in a VM, mainly to try out #guix. I was running #nixos as the base OS and then mostly packages from #guix. -
Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) (clackemovedtoheldscalla@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 10:13:00 UTC Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) @denommus Now I'm running #guixsd, with #nixpkgs on the side for some software not yet packaged for #guix. Each OS have their strengths. -

lnxw48 (Linux Walt) (lnxw48@fresh.federati.net)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 12:14:38 UTC lnxw48 (Linux Walt) @clacke @denommus I tried #NixOS on one laptop about a year ago. I liked it, but everything must be compiled through #Nix. Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -
Tristan B. Kildaire (deavmi@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 12:24:17 UTC Tristan B. Kildaire @lnxw48 what's #NixOS ? Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -
Tristan B. Kildaire (deavmi@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 12:34:48 UTC Tristan B. Kildaire @marcus I see. Is #Guix hard to setup. Must I know #lisp :D cause lisp is always mentioned. Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -
Yuri Albuquerque (denommus@quitter.se)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Dec-2015 13:30:20 UTC Yuri Albuquerque @clacke my problem with guix is that, unlike nix, it doesn't enforce purity. Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -

Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) (clackemovedtoheldscalla@quitter.se)'s status on Thursday, 17-Dec-2015 08:20:35 UTC Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) @denommus Oh, you are talking about the language.
Build expressions use the store monad, so they're all pure. Not enforced, I suppose. -

Yuri Albuquerque (denommus@quitter.se)'s status on Friday, 18-Dec-2015 14:27:52 UTC Yuri Albuquerque @clacke @lnxw48 I believe the specific glibc version used by the compiled packages isn't going to be gc'd. Did that happen to you? Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this. -
