Conference organizer sent all of us presenters an email today explaining procedure for getting WiFi access at the conference. Holy crap, hotel people, give us all a break! Never heard such bogosity and crapola to try to keep anyone from getting a few free minutes of Internet access.
- Claes Wallin (韋嘉誠) repeated this.

@lnxw48 here's the deal: s stated in CMS’s email about final details for the conference, “The JW Marriott is equipped to offer high-speed wireless and wired Internet access in its guest rooms. Guest room Wi-Fi will be provided complimentary for CMS conference attendees (you should accept the charges upon login but these fees will be removed from your bill upon checkout). Additionally, complimentary Wi-Fi will be offered in the foyer space outside of the White River Ballroom.” However, complimentary Wi-Fi is not provided in the presentation rooms. Therefore, those presenters who requested Internet use for their presentations (i.e., indicated on their proposals that Internet is needed or desirable) will receive a code for one device for one day at the conference…
-
@lnxw48 further… The Wi-Fi codes will be delivered to CMS each day as separate slips of paper that will then be distributed to the appropriate users. If you requested Internet use, either I or your Session Chair will distribute the codes prior to your presentation or session. Each code will be unique and will only work for one device, therefore it's important that you enable only the device you will use for your presentation. Please note that the code covers Internet access for one person for one device for one day, and it must not be shared.

@jonkulp A buddy once had a brilliant fix for this. He jumped through all the hoops to get his MAC addy cleared for the (usually 24h) lease. Then cloned his MAC addy to a dd-wrt Linksys. So, the linksys was on for 24h and everyone just connected to that. :D

@jonkulp names/nicks omitted for the questionable legality. :P

@lnxw48 @cmhobbs @nybill @x1101 wifi must be a cash cow for these big conference hotels. I bet most business travelers just pay for it on expense accounts.
-
@jonkulp Biggest cash cow I ever heard of Re: data was text messaging. There were 140char left unused in the data stream every time a cell phone said, "I'm here" to a cell tower.

@lnxw48 @cmhobbs @nybill @x1101 shoot, man it's only the big expensive hotels that charge for this stuff. Goto Motel 6 and it's all included
