We've a 101 CD changer. What do people do with these nowadays?
-
@johnnynull rip out the guts and use it as retro case for a #RasPi audio system running #muttonchop
-
@jonkulp Not a bad idea at all! I shall have to ponder upon this.
-
@jonkulp postscript: I don't actually know what muttonchop is. We want to give CapnJ a streaming radio type thing. Dedicated systems
-
@jonkulp are expensive, but just an iPod with external speakers is kinda shitty. #FirstWorldSnobbery
-
@jonkulp The one we were looking at is like $150 http://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Internet-Radios/zgbs/electronics/3236446011

@johnnynull Muttonchop is @jezra's music player. It runs as a server and you control it remotely via web browser interface. I've got it running on my #RasPi, with audio output going through a 1972 Marantz receiver. I have music files stored locally but also several streaming radio channels to listen to and you can subscribe to podcasts on it too.

@jonkulp Thanks, but it's all Greek to me. That could be random words strung together as far as I know.
-
@johnnynull hmm. May be best to get a ready-to-play device then. Do they still make the Chumby, I wonder?
-
@johnnynull if you have an older Android phone you're not using as a phone, you could pair it up with a Bluetooth speaker and have a pretty robust system. I got the Oontz angle recently and it's pretty cool. Sounds good but not very loud. Works great with my phone, wife's tablet, son's old Android phone, etc.
-
@jonkulp That's a great idea, actually. We've got a few older phones laying around. Thanks!

@johnnynull \o/

@johnnynull I wanted the JBL tube thingy but it was $$$. Got Oontz for $35
-
@jonkulp Good price. And not being super powerful is perfect for CapnJ's room. ;^)
-
@johnnynull And of course now I see amazon has it for $27...
-
@jonkulp I didn't want to mention that.....
-
@johnnynull Yep it's plenty loud for normal listening but will not allow CapnJ to blast the music because the hardware just won't do it.
