@thelovebug@micro.thelovebug.org Btw late answer to #XMPP (jabber) vs. #Telegram: you can't run your own Telegram node, server software is closed source and it doesn't federate == vendor lock-in. XMPP is still the monarch in IM kingdom.
-
@mmn That’s fair enough. I’m struggling with sending images on my Jabber instance… Is this something you have expertise with? :-)
-
@thelovebug There are multiple ways to send files over XMPP. Usual culprits when failing are NAT or different methods. UPnP in your router might fix issues between same clients. But you're not going to be able to send between say Pidgin and Conversations. .)
-
Really? I am surprised about the cross-client. Surely if they both support XEP-0065, then you should be able to transfer files between them? Or am I oversimplifying it?
-
@thelovebug If they both support the same XEP yes. But file transfers can also be done through Jingle. Which clients are involved in your setup?
-
Conversations in both cases… although I’ve successfully managed to transfer an image now!
-
Although my daughters use Xabber, so we’ll see how that works.
-
@thelovebug Let me know if it works. Afaik Xabber doesn't support Jingle file transfers, which is all that Conversations can do. :)
-
@mmn Interesting… according to the Conversations website, it doesn’t support Jingle, but does support Proxy65 which is what I’ve got working!
-
@thelovebug Oh maybe I got that on the flipside. Hard to keep apart all the XEPs .) Nevertheless, it works for you. That's what counts. :D
