Happy Birthday to Marie Tharp (July 30, 1920 – August 23, 2006), American geologist and oceanographic cartographer extraordinaire.

She built the first accurate map of the Atlantic Ocean floor and discovered the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that led to the acceptance of the theories of plate tectonics and continental drift.
