   It's frustrating how people see the consequences of capitalism and are coming up with new fancy names for them: 'enshittification' or 'the rot economy' or what have you, attributing it to 'bean counters' and 'management consultants' as if there was any way to have a capitalist economy that _wouldn't_ lead to these outcomes.

   Sorry folks, it's neither new nor unexpected, and if you want to deal with the effects you have to fix the causes: private ownership of the means of production

     @pettter Of course, you are right that the root cause is capitalism and that it is centrist and liberal to want to regulate capitalism.

     Politics is the art of the possible, and until anti-capitalism has been made possible, isn't harm reduction and lib shit better than accelerationism?

     I think Doctorow is pretty clear that enshittification will happen because the system we have set up allows it, not that we should appeal to the goodness of the hearts of our solless corporations.

     It's a description of a specific ill of a specific branch of capitalism made possible by technological and financial innovations.

     People have tolerated a lot of capitalism, but maybe they won't tolerate it going this far?
