Resting my phone upright on my keyboard and screen, and mere seconds later trying to move my laptop cursor onto the phone screen.
Security issues aside, would be neat if screens and their devices actually worked like this, like they do in stuff like Trek, you just grab objects and fling them in the geographic direction of other screens.

@clacke There's a utility for X that does that, actually (x2x). You could SSH to a different computer with X forwarding and then add on that computers screen to your own, then just drag windows over.
I used it back in the 00s to have a multi-screen setup when hacking late nights in the computer labs at uni, hijacking the adjacent thin clients as extra screens.

@pettter I've used x2x and x2vnc! Glorious.
Would love it if this were possible for Android, either direction. Changing subtitles on the computer with my phone instead of using the wireless mouse and squinting to make out the tiny icons on the TV would be nice.

Not the same thing, but I would love to be able to use my tablet as an external screen too and extend the desktop onto it. I've seen only proprietary solutions for this.

@pettter Oh. Neither direction is possible? I thought I had seen a w2x or x2w, but maybe I dreamed it.
I understand that Wayland is more careful with permissions, whereas on X everything can spy on everything, so spoofing keyboard input etc is no issue on X.

@clacke Of course, with Wayland that's no longer possible, and it was always a kind of clunky way of doing things, considering the weird semi-networked nature of X11 applications, but it was a fun little trick.

Come to think of it, what I'm describing would just be x0vnc with a vncclient on the phone, not x2x. x2x would have the same issue as the remote mouse.
(and how would you even drag the "pointer" off the screen on a touchscreen?)

@clacke I might be mistaken! You can run X applications on top of Wayland, but I'm not savvy enough about the internals to figure out whether that makes x2w or w2x possible...
