*Everyone is a weird nerd about something if they're allowed to be, celebrity gossip is just being an obsessive nerd about famous people (for instance). Soap operas are just special interest obsessions for people who's special interest is people/social dynamics. π
*I may also not spend much/any time with so-called normal people (by which I can only assume one means extremely heteronormative types only into mainstream culture, be they gay or not). In light of this, I guess take my take with an extra big pinch of salt.

Luis Villa (luis_in_brief@social.coop)'s status on Monday, 11-Sep-2023 05:09:06 UTC Luis Villa @AlexMorin @BlackAzizAnansi one of the most powerful marketing entities in the world, Facebook, calls it Fediverse in all their Threads documentation. So whether or not thatβs right or wrong, until they change their minds or give up on integration, suspect thatβs what we get.
(My truly grumpy old man take is that we missed the boat of making the web interactive, and then it would have just been βthe conversational part of the webβ. Oh well.)

Alexandre Morin (alexmorin@techhub.social)'s status on Monday, 11-Sep-2023 05:09:09 UTC Alexandre Morin @BlackAzizAnansi The Fediverse has a product marketing problem: we need to stop saying: fediverse, ActivityPub, federation, instance, server, etc.
These words mean nothing to non-nerds, which makes them immediately feel like outsiders, and they donβt give it a second look and just turn to Threads or whatever is easier.
How we say: Mastodon. Thatβs it. I know it does not take into account the fact that new people will be confused by the structure, but throwing jargon at them is worse. -
