Robert McNees (mcnees@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Aug-2023 16:38:19 UTC Robert McNees I bought Western Digitalβs SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD earlier this year β not the Pro model theyβve acknowledged has problems β and it randomly disconnects *all the time*. If itβs mounted more than ~15 minutes the warnings start popping up.
No data loss yet, but sounds like itβs coming sooner than expected. Does all the stuff mentioned in the article. Not feeling great about this!

Infoseepage (infoseepage@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Aug-2023 16:42:55 UTC Infoseepage @mcnees A lot of WD enclosures have problems in my experience.
My most common problem I've experienced with my client base is they'll buy a WD USB hard drive and then do something to mangle the connector on the interface board. I've seen everything from frying it to just broken solder pads. No strain relief.

LumiWorx (lumiworx@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 19-Aug-2023 18:18:58 UTC LumiWorx @mcnees ... As a participant in the last WD class action from Red NAS drive issues, I doubt any consumer grade customers will get reimbursed for anything other than a low-numbered nuisance fee for cash settlements. You might get offered an alternate product as a replacement, but that remains a question.
WD bought SanDisk in 2015, around the same time they acquired HGST (Hitachi). No name changes were made, and no absorption of products to tip off buyers.

Iβve owned 6. Never had one fail, only replaced for more storage.
