1. 14. The Library. This large chamber contains row upon row of ancient and dusty books, and presumably among them is the Book of Anapho, needed to open the next level of the dungeon. There is no obvious way to find one book among thousands, but the first PC to take a book off the shelf finds a book titled, “A Voyage of Discovery Begins.” At that point, pick a spot in the library as the location of the Book of Anapho. Every time they take a book off the shelves and look at it, they either find a book with a heat theme if they got closer or a book with a cold theme if they got farther away. Some suggested titles for heat: Two Years with the Desert Nomads An Atlas of the Forbidden Volcanic Isles Some Like It Hot: How to Grow Coffee Varietals The Scourge of the Fire Wizards The Curious Habits of the Southern Sun Worshippers Anatomy of a Red Dragon Safety Stove Designs The Elemental Plane of Steam

Some suggested titles for cold: Frost Giant Society Snowblindness: Its Causes and Treatment Chilling Meats to Preserve Them in the Summer Months The Mystery of the Ice Dagger Arkamog: The City Buried by a Blizzard Layered Clothing Favored by the Northern Tribes Recreational Uses of Cone of Cold The Seasonal Changes of the Kokulmok Glacier Players may be tempted to systematically just grab every book along a particular row until they find the right one; if they take that approach, they immediately find a book with the title, “Less Is More: Finding Balance in Life by Not Overdoing Things.” If they persist in this activity, they find a book titled, “One Last Chance: Recognizing the Warning Signs Before It Is Too Late.” If they still persist, they are accosted by the Librarian: a giant book the size of a queen-sized bed that flaps open and shut, attempting to bite with its razor-sharp teeth. It acts as a Mimic, but with 80 HP and two bite attacks instead of a pseudopod. The Librarian appears without warning from around a corner and immediately launches itself into combat. Eventually, the PCs will come across the Book of Anapho, a large gaudy book with a white leather cover and golden edges. After finding it, they will not understand how it wasn’t immediately recognizable at a glance from a distance. The interior seems to be an incomprehensible script in an unknown language, undecipherable even by magic. Its use comes later.
